I am a 19 year old student at Columbus College of Art and Design and have just completed my freshman year. I look forward
to a more enjoyable sophomore year, beginning in August of 2005. I was born knowing that I would be an artist with my parents,
family, and friends giving me much support along the way.
Although the arts have always been my forte and shelter in life, my freshman year was extremely challenging. I
faced many elements that I have never dealt with before, but after going through this crash course I am ready to do much better
things.
My chosen major is Fashion Design with a minor in Fine Arts. However, I do not plan on designing Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger
t-shirts and jeans. I plan on going the route of haute couture fashion and following in the steps of some of my favorite
designers, such as Jean Paul Gaultier. I intend to make pieces of art that exemplify the human body, which I believe to be
a work of art on its own.
I also intend to take huge steps towards activism and human outreach through my clothing designs, such as Kenneth Cole
has done in such a wonderful way. Compassion for others much less fortunate than me has led me to activism in many forms
and I believe that expressing it the way Kenneth Cole has done opens many people's eyes who would not have cared otherwise.
I hope to do the same one day.
My views and concepts as an artist are always changing, but I have come to a point in my art where I am starting to understand
the ideas that I would like to portray through all of my works. When I am able to create work on my own (outside of school
assignments and limitations), I navigate toward only organic shapes. I am very against harsh edges and barriers in my work
and want to emulate life and all things natural and I believe that the circle and sphere are the best shapes to do this.
I love to use natural elements in all of my work and hope to be able to carry this through in my clothes by using fabrics
such as hemp, linen, and silk.
My goal is to portray messages, views and statements with my works that will help improve individuals and society, as
well as myself.
